Sustainability at Forest Investment Associates (FIA) in 2025 was defined not by a single accomplishment but by long-standing commitments and projects reaching maturity. Our seventh annual Sustainability Report, A More Resilient Tomorrow, shares the data, progress, and stories from across the forests we manage in the United States, Brazil, and Chile.
Key Highlights from 2025
Much of what we report this year was set in motion years earlier, which is fitting for a firm that measures its work in decades. In 2025, that patience showed in independently assured carbon reporting, certification on both continents, and conservation outcomes that are built to last:
- Earning independent limited assurance on biogenic carbon reporting for our climate-smart forestry strategy, which Environmental Finance named Environmental Fund of the Year for North America.*
- Recertifying our U.S. forests to the SFI 2022 Forest Management Standard without a single non-conformance, bringing all of our Brazilian properties under one FSC multisite certificate, and maintaining over 99% of FIA-managed acres under leading sustainability certifications.
- Permanently protecting 12,243 acres of our Bear Creek Management Unit through the Florida Forever program, and acquiring 86,000 acres in Georgia and Alabama that include the 931-acre Coosa Valley Prairie, held under conservation easement by The Nature Conservancy.
- Joining the International Sustainable Forestry Coalition and working with 17 other member companies on its Forestry Natural Capital Project.
- Maintaining four-star status in our Principles for Responsible Investment assessment while raising our Policy, Governance & Strategy score, and adopting our Policy to Prevent Deforestation and Conversion.
- Deepening our partnerships with communities and our own people, from irrigation projects with Mapuche communities in Chile’s Huamaqui territory to the launch of our employee Growth Rings leadership program.
Disclaimer: *FIA self-nominated for the Environmental Finance award. No fees or payments were made by FIA for nomination, consideration, or receipt of either award.
